Hi, I'm Tiana Symmonds.
I am a first-gen born in the States with proud family roots stretching back to Barbados and St. Lucia. Long before I managed multi-million dollar corporate assets, I learned the mechanics of survival on the streets of Brooklyn.
When I was just four years old, my father walked out the front door and vanished, leaving my mother to face a mountain of sudden lawsuits and empty bank accounts alone. I watched my mother struggle eloquently. She kept a roof over our heads and food on the table even when that food was Vienna sausages or spaghetti stretched out with fast-food ketchup packets.
I survived because of a "village" of resilient West Indian women who pooled their trust and pennies into susu savings clubs to keep us afloat. That childhood taught me two unshakeable principles:
- The Foundation of Love: A relentless commitment to showing up for people with patience and kindness.
- The Weapon of Resourcefulness: Learning how to find a way forward whenever you are given the space to build.
I learned as I got older that it took a village of women borrowing from one another to support the needs of their respective families... This was my first masterclass in resourcefulness.
On paper, I was an untouchable corporate superhero. But inside, the architecture was cracking.
Building the "Wire"
Determined to be completely self-reliant, I weaponized my mind. I commuted hours across New York boroughs to attend elite specialized institutions like Philippa Schuyler and the Bronx High School of Science, eventually earning my Master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
For the next two decades, I lived inside the high-stakes trenches of corporate America, building massive, complex logistical architectures for global empires like Hewlett Packard, General Electric, and Amazon. I mastered the "Wire". I mastered the data systems, the supply chain matrix, and the hard mathematics of scale.

The Climax & The Invisible Cage
Everything changed in 2007 when I lost my mother to a courageous battle with cancer. I was only 29 years old. To survive the crushing loss of the queen of my village, I did what I had always been trained to do.
I kept myself devastatingly busy.
I ran toward organizational fires at work, managed the heaviest operational loads, and spent my nights numbing the loneliness with karaoke and Mai Tais. I masked a profound emotional drain and loneliness behind a flawless executive performance and a constant smile.
My mother left behind a final, haunting poem titled My Sin, warning against the trap of putting off your own life:
"Caught up in a web of procrastination is my sin... Time is on your side. Grab it, hug it, and use it fast."
It took me years to finally discern the truth. The real trap wasn't my corporate job. It was the Invisible Cage of corporate survival I had built inside myself. The exhausting, deeply ingrained need to relentlessly perform, collect credentials, and solve everyone else's structural crises while completely ignoring my own body and soul.
I lead a structural engineering firm for human potential!
From Tenant to Sovereign Architect
I refused to let my mother's warning go to waste. I stopped looking for minor career tweaks and used my architectural brilliance to run a forensic audit on my own life.
I successfully executed a multi-decade strategy to completely retire from institutional obligations at age 46.
In the months that followed, I went through an 80-pound health transformation, physically and spiritually, dismantling that invisible cage, bar by bar.
Today, I lead AskTiana Solutions, a structural engineering firm for human potential.
